Full-time Paralegal/Legal Assistant

This job is anything but boring but it is not for the faint of heart. My practice is largely family law, though I do represent some small businesses and handle various other types of litigation also. Family law cases especially must move quickly. In turn, we must move quickly or people spend more time than necessary in extremely stressful circumstances. Most of my cases involve the most stressful conflict the individual client has faced in their lives. As a result, it is vital that my entire office consistently remains tentative, strong, steady, timely, confidential, compassionate, and informative, even when we ourselves are stressed. The ability to truly listen to our clients may be the most important skill this position requires. Also, if you believe you are someone who would rather discuss ideas than people, then you are likely a good candidate for this position.

I am looking for someone who truly wants a lifelong career helping people through the worst time of their lives (divorce, being called a bad parent, being called an abuser, someone won't pay you, basement flooding, injury,.... think about what you think would really stink if it happened to you and that is likely what we deal with for our clients). If you are ready to 100% commit yourself to the legal field and helping people resolve conflict, which again is not for the faint of heart, then you are very likely a great fit for this position. You must be able to keep information confidential and inherently respect people's privacy. You must be able to respond to rudeness with professionalism. Finally, I need someone who is a rule abider and strictly interprets the law.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting attorney(s) in all stages of litigation matters. This candidate should feel comfortable drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, scheduling, maintaining case files electronically, e-filing, drafting correspondence and completing other ad-hoc requests, as needed. The ideal candidate is happy to follow processes and instructions strictly, but brave and tactful enough to offer input/ideas to the attorney. Finally, if you can't happily operate in a situation where you feel like you are juggling a lot of different balls in the air, this position is likely not for you. In other words, you will have many assignments at once with various deadlines and priorities. If you have found that you are not comfortable taking on a lot of projects at once, you may not be happy in this position. On the other hand, if you find that you often bend over backwards or move mountains to help people fix their issues, and that truly brings you joy, then you are my person.

  • Legal fact and basic legal research
  • Assist with case management
  • Organize and electronically file pleadings
  • Coordinate and schedule calendars

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (Paralegal Certificate or degree/significant coursework from reputable paralegal program)
  • 2+ years' as Litigation Legal Assistant or Paralegal
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize many tasks, deadlines, and clients/cases at once
  • Efficient typing skills
  • Ability to learn various software programs such as e-filing, case management software, adobe, Microsoft word, excel, Westlaw and other legal research systems, and more.

The position will pay commensurate with relevant experience, education, training, and offer bonus incentives. The position requires billing your time (tracking of your activities throughout the day literally with a timer and detailed journal like entries). If you make the position profitable for the firm and make clients happy, you will reap a significant portion of the rewards.  Please send resume and cover letter to
