Diversity Scholarship

You are here

Thank you for your interest in the Peoria County Bar Association Diversity Scholarship program. A goal of the Peoria County Bar Association (the “PCBA”) is to diversify its membership by providing financial assistance to law students who show interest in practicing law in the Peoria area and part of a minority group that is historically underrepresented in the legal profession. The PCBA will award $5,000.00 in financial assistance annually to the recipient. The Diversity Committee of the PCBA will select the recipient. The decision of the committee is final. The postmark deadline for priority consideration is August 1, 2014, but the scholarship will remain open until the final candidate is chosen for the 2014-15 academic year. Any applications submitted after the final candidate is chosen will be considered for the following academic year based upon eligibility. Eligibility: The applicant must be one of the following for the 2014-15 academic year: an entering first-year law student; a second-year law student; or a third-year law student. The applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America. The applicant must have a four-year college degree or be expected to obtain a college degree by the end of the spring 2014 semester. The applicant must have been accepted to or have an application to law school pending. Before receiving scholarship funds, the recipient will be required to demonstrate admission to an accredited law school, or, if already a law student, successful completion of the first year of law school. In addition to the submission of the application and personal statement, the PCBA Diversity Committee may ask for a telephone interview. If you have any questions about the application or the scholarship, please contact the Chair of the PCBA Diversity Committee, Nina Gougis, (309) 671-9000.
