Kenneth L. Ott passed away on October 29, 2012. He was born Novemer 17, 1924, in Hillsboro, Illinois. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in May, 1942, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in November, 1942, when he turned 18. After completing basic training, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force in September, 1943, and completed Piper Cub training as an Aviation Cadet. In March, 1944, all former Army AF Cadets were transferred back to the Army due to increased action on the Western Front in France. He was assigned to the 272nd Infantry Regiment of the 69th Division, and left for England in November, 1944. Two weeks later his division joined the front lines helping stem the enemy surge in the Ardennes Forrest. He was awarded 3 battle stars and his regiment was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation when the war ended. Ken returned home in the fall of 1945, attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, transferring to St. Louis University after two years to obtain his law degree in 1951. After law school, he spent three months as an agent-in-training at the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover before returning to practice law in Missouri. In 1962, he obtained his license to practice law in Illinois and joined his brother Jack Ott's law firm (Knobloch and Ott) in Peoria in 1963. Ken practiced law with his brother until January, 1971, when Jack died of lung cancer. Ken had his own law office as a sole practitioner until December, 2011. In that 40 year period he also associated for a time with his nephew, Attorney James R. Carter of Peoria. He had a general law practice including work in corporate law, probate, estate planning, marital matters, litigation, criminal matters, personal injury and workers' compensation. Ken's daughter, Sally, received on his behalf, his 50-year plaque at the Law Day Luncheon earlier this year. She told us her father had always been very proud of his profession and being a member of the PCBA.
