Annual Business Meeting and Installation of Officers - Monday, July 9
The deadline for reservations for the annual meeting is Thursday, July 5, 2012. You may make your reservation online by going to www.peoriabar.org/Shop/CLE. Or you may return the registration form with your payment and menu choice to the PCBA office. Officers being recognized at the meeting are Kevin M. Miller, outgoing President; Judge Lisa Y. Wilson, incoming President; James F. Kane, President-Elect; Craig S. Young, Second Vice President; and Timothy J. Howard, Secretary-Treasurer.  The Nomination of Timothy J. Howard will be up for vote during the business meeting, and several changes to the by-laws, as outlined in June, will also be presented for approval.


Federal Jurisdiction Seminar-Registration Closes July 5, 2012 This year has brought significant changes to federal jurisdiction, venue, removal and transfer.  Whether you practice in federal court frequently or rarely, you should become familiar with these changes. The Central District of Illinois and the Peoria County Bar Association are pleased to present a seminar/webcast on jurisdiction, venue removal and transfer, including what you need to know about all of those changes. The time for the seminar will be from 9:00 - 12:00; if you choose to attend this seminar live it will be in U.S. District Judge James Shadid's courtroom.  The seminar provides three (3) hours of general MCLE credit. Memorials
On May 31, 2012, Robert J. "Bob" Neff passed away.  Bob was born in Belleville, Illinois, on November 6, 1938.  He received his Bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from December 7, 1962 to June 6, 1963 and then served in the reserves for seven years as a medic at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illnois. Prior to receiving his law degree, Bob worked as an agent for the IRS in Peoria and then became a partner with Clifton Gunderson LLP in Peoria.  He worked with that firm for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the PCBA, IBA and the Illinois Society of CPAs.  In keeping with the policy of the Board of Directors, his name has been added to the memorial plaque, together with his years of practice.  In order to support the ongoing memorial to members of our Association, we ask that you send a check in the amount of $5.00 to the Peoria County Bar Foundation in memory of  Robert J. Neff, or donate online.  The PCBA has contributed $100.00 to the Foundation in memory of Mr. Neff.

Upcoming Clinics:
On July 21, 2012, we will be holding a Wills and Advanced Directive Clinic at the Peoria Friendship House. This clinic is held semi-annually by the attorneys of Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen and the Legal Division of Caterpillar, Inc. Approximately 30 clients are served at this clinic and it provides a valuable service to our community.
On August 9, 2012, there will be another Divorce Clinic at the Peoria County Courthouse. These clinics provide an avenue to serve clients with simple divorces. Although it is a pro se clinic, we provide support to make sure clients are able to complete the process and obtain their divorce. If you are interested in helping with the clinic, please let us know. The attorney will meet with the client and prepare the divorce pleadings using an automated document system. We provide the training. For further information you can also speak to attorneys Michelle Eggert Jack or Michele Miller, who direct the clinics. If you have clients that you feel might be eligible for these clinics please direct them to the Prairie State Office.

We are pleased to welcome to Peoria the Summer Interns:  Akua Adu-Wusu and Xiao Hu are working at the Peoria County Courthouse through the ABA JIOP (Judicial Intern Opportunity Program).  Michael Wissa, Arsenio Mims, Feifei Bian and Kristin Olson are working with Judge Mihm  in the Federal Court.
